There's something comforting about throwing your words out into space and knowing that no one is listening so you can say just what you like, and the waves go on and on forever and don't stop till they hit a star...or meteor.
Of course, God is always listening. And reading. Or however it is that He knows our thoughts.
I've been thinking lately...very recently actually...about how people can not believe in God. It's all so logical. Even scientific.
Why is such a concept so threatening?
Maybe it doesn't feel threatening, but intrusive. What if God made you give up your boat you just bought or made you marry someone you didn't like or sent you to live in Africa after you've saved so many years to build that great new house?
Or confusing perhaps. So many belief systems in the first place. Studying is hard work and it's a lot easier to just listen to people and pick the flavor you like best. But that often turns sour.
Or just plain dislike. All God-followers have something in common...they aren't perfect. Of course, the non-believer isn't perfect either, but it's easier to point a finger than it is to examine ones self with integrity and humility.
For sure God doesn't fit very well into the prosperous life of folks in the U.S., Canada, Eruope, and Australia. Too much money, too many things. Too little time to think about God when there's so much to be acquired.
It's all so simple, really.
I think all 4 year olds believe in God on some level.
But then the 4 year olds grow more sophisticated and more jaded and more self absorbed and there isn't room for God anymore. They start believing what other folks tell them as opposed to what they know.
I like 4 year olds better than I do a lot of adults. They are more honest and their kindnesses are genuine without thought of what they will get back and when they don't like you, they tell you so straight to your face instead of telling someone else, and when they play, they really play and when they are mad a nap takes care of everything.
Thank God He made 4 year olds.
